Heading southward, Capalbio is the very last small town to be found in the heart Maremma, Tuscany. Maremma is an untouched and preserved area, providing genuine agricultural products, excellent cuisine, breath-taking landscape views and charming sites.
THE TAROT GARDEN

Niki de Saint Phalle was born in Neuilly - sur - Seine, France. She grew up in New York where the family moved at the end of the 20's of last century.
From 1979 to 1996, she mainly worked on the project of the " The Tarot Garden"in Garavicchio, within Maremma, Tuscany.
Being inspired by the Tarots, she created an ensemble of 22 monumental sculptures located within a stretch of untouched land.
Some of these sculptures have hollow interior sections where the visitors may enter and enjoy the sculpture from the inside.

These sculptures are made of reinforced concrete and are entirely covered with a mosaic work of glass, small pieces of mirrors and vividly coloured ceramics, thus reminding the visitors of the mystery of tarots as well as of the originality of ancient forms of art exploiting simple materials.
